The history of the shirt

The history of the shirt is full of myths of origin. In a sense, T-shirts - lightweight undergarments designed to be used in hot or temperate conditions - have existed for thousands of years. Archaeological evidence suggests that workers in ancient Egypt wore a kind of "T-shirt" and anthropologists and clothing historians can point to many similar garments throughout history.

Century

The modern incarnation T-shirt originated sometime between late 19 and mid 20 th century. Some Anglophiles convinced that the English were the first design T around 1880. In any case, by the turn of the century, many clothing stores in Europe was reflected in the trend.

U.S. citizens have had knowledge of the existence of "light cotton underwear" during the First World War, after U.S. soldiers saw their European counterparts use. Members of the U.S. Navy at that time were required to wear heavy wool uniforms, which were incredibly uncomfortable during the hot summers European.

U.S. Marina the lawsuit he filed the first shirt to America in 1913 is indisputable. Many believe that a man named Howard Jones designed the first "True T-shirt, athletic absorbent garment for athletes at the University football team in Southern California.

The audience was stunned the cinema in 1934 when Clark Gable appeared in the Oscar-winning film, it happened one night, wearing only his trousers with a shirt. With Claudette Colbert in the same room of a motel, but behind a fragile leaves hanging "wall" was too much for some moralizing, which quickly established censorship through a classification of the film commission. "

In World War II, the shirt was raised to new heights of popularity. Somewhat ironically, pictures of American soldiers doing the work on T glamorous clothes. Shortly after the war ended in 1948, presidential challenger Thomas Dewey used a massive campaign shirts to advocate for his candidacy. Four years later, General Dwight D. Eisenhower also used a campaign T-shirt ("I like Ike") to generate interest. Around this time, American icons like James Dean, John Wayne and Marlon Brando "surprisingly" wore T-shirts in public and in appearances on television and film. These cultural moments paved the way for a new broad popular recognition of the shirt.

Modern History

In 1960 and 1970, the counterculture movement claimed the shirt as a symbol of rebellion. The so-called "tie dyed T-shirt became the rage, the screen printing and other techniques of home design is also empowered people to adapt their own Message T-shirts. Expanded professional designers as well, offering alternative cuts and styles, as the scoop neck, sleeveless shirt and neck-V.

In the 1980's, the shirt had solidified its place as a garment that defines a generation. Abundance figures counterculture embraced and transformed T in a basic wardrobe of America. rock bands, political activists and other iconic figures of the Vietnam War and the Woodstock generation all helped to cement T-cultural position in the pantheon of Indian clothing.

In the 1990's, the shirt evolved as a social phenomenon. The called "T-shirt joke" became prominent. Many, like shirts including dirty jokes, puns, obscene, etc. At the same time, designers class is reinvented as a luxury garment.

By the turn of the 21st century, designers like Versace, Diesel and selling ultra high-end T-shirts for hundred dollars. Moreover, during the first decade of the 21st century, we have seen a growing trend towards the proliferation of independent labels. Therefore, the market T-shirt has become more varied than ever. Traditional manufacturers of shirts, such as Jockey, Heinz, and Calvin Klein, are producing millions of normal underwear every year. At the same time, designers of high-end media and evolve their own take the concept.

Where is the actual word "T-shirt" originate? The answer to this puzzle is a matter of debate. Conventional wisdom suggests that the name comes from the shape of the shirt in the body. However, some believe that the "T" "T-shirt" comes from the last syllable of the word "amputee". The idea behind this theory is that the shirts with short sleeves resemble the bodies of amputees. Finally, some believe that the "T" stands for "training." Given the military origins of the garment, unless there are some anecdotal support of this idea.

Future T

How does the concept of T-shirts will evolve in the future is a unknown. A trend that many merchants choose is the growing desire of the United States to "mass customization." Society demands more and more mass-produced products - such as T-shirt - but our increasingly individualistic culture while pushing us towards personalization. Therefore, many designers suggest, T-shirts of the future can be mass produced yet made to order. We will continue to see the full range of shirts currently on the market, but also see a number Custom increasing both professional and intelligent "home brand" clothing.

Traffic jams, bills, bad weather, and work are things we all complain about. But Kyle Maynard doesn’t complain. Born without arms or legs below his elbows and knees, he excels: as a champion athlete, inspirational speaker, college student (who can use a cell phone, type fifty words a minute, and maintain an A average), and male model. No Excuses is his inspirational autobiography that shows how a positive can-do attitude gives someone we might see as disadvantaged the advantage over life. Born with a rare disorder called "congenital amputation," Maynard’s story is one of a devoted extended family, strong religious faith, and a personal determination that made him a football lineman, a state champion wrestler, and an inspirational figure who was featured in the highest rated "Larry King Live" show ever. No Excuses is Kyle Maynard’s own story, but also the story of how he has changed the lives and attitudes of other people: even making Howard Stern rethink his support of abortion to become pro-life. No Excuses proves that in the end it is not disabilities that separate people but abilities of the heart.
