Numbness In Left Thumb And Index Finger
Numbness In Left Thumb And Index Finger
From the ashes rises the Phoenix
From the ashes rises the Phoenix
He was very angry this time, putting his hands around my throat. He pressed hard, so hard that he could not take a breath in. I could only look at him with hatred in my eyes and I hope you burn. I thought if I looked at him a moment longer, it would end like that. I looked down to have the look of the face and wished it would end. Relief came as if I popped open a can of soda and air pressure was released. He let me fall down and hit me like a dead rat. I was able at the time of the move.
I still could not breathe through the tension only got worse because now swelled. I'm lying on the ground. I was curled up, afraid to move. I began to mourn uncontrollably.
"You fake" I heard him say. There was so much malice in his voice and I could feel his eyes penetrating through me with hatred. He kicked me and told me I deserved it.
I went through these episodes every night. On rare occasions, when he came home in a good mood, let me take a walk to the local Wawa.
Tonight I wanted to go out and get a gallon and a half of Turkey Hill ice tea. We lived on 9th Street Belmar, New Jersey. I was so happy to leave that place. I left with the children, who were one and two years of age. Wawa walked seven blocks. I have my iced tea, and began to walk backwards.
I noticed a light coming from one of the buildings. They were not these people in that room. They were doing a dance. A man was dressed in what looked like a long skirt, but actually split his pants. Be this is now called hokima. The man in charge seemed really had a look calm, patient in his face. I was fascinated. I do not know, but I had seen. I had been there for a while when he beckoned me to come in. I went and sat down. I saw the whole class. It differs from any martial art that had never seen before. It was not the style and grace to the techniques that I witnessed that you do not see in the regular karate.
I checked my watch and realized he had been sat there for about two hours. I rose with the intention to leave, because I was in trouble now. Something in my gut told me that I belonged there and I really did not want to leave. I walked towards the door without saying a word. As I put my hand on the lever to exit, I heard someone call for me.
"Did you like what you see?" It was the sensei. I looked at him. My face must have been red that day because I was one of my usual fights with terrorists home.
"It's different from everything I've seen, I must admit" "Yes I liked it"
"I have to go "I went out the door.
"Would you like to be here with us? I asked bluntly.
"No I have money to train now "" Maybe in a couple of months "
I said and went to turn again.
"Wait" "Eva, come here," he said with sufficient authority. This woman came out of the dojo. She shook my hand again and even think in retrospect, she had compassion on his face. I do not 'know it then, but this meeting soon change my life forever in its current form today.
"It Eva ", otherwise known as M. She is the Mother of the dojo, not the paternal type" (I can not get into what it means, but his show size).'re going home and write a letter to me why you want to train and bring it here tomorrow. Wear sweatpants, ready to begin training.
I could not believe what I was hearing. He told me not to worry about money. I went straight home and luckily for me, the idiot was sleeping. I checked on the children, and locked myself in my room and began to write this letter. Do not remember everything I put in this paper. I know it was difficult to write. It took about an hour. I remember said he was in an abusive relationship and I wanted to learn to defend myself.
The next day I made an excuse to go to the store again. I went to Bushido Monmouth Kai Sensei Chuck Davis where I presented my letter. I sat on the side for my bank account. All the world was warming, and I could imagine including and learn what they were learning. I wanted to be in their fog in the worst way.
Sensei told me to go. Eva called out too. He said: "You will be responsible for Tina." I looked up and said "everyone here is a user name." Because his name is Panzera, we will call Panza (As the German tank). I ruffled his hair and smiled. "Panza going to be fine, you'll see."
I began my training at night. I trained with what I call my brothers dojo. Let's see if I could remember some names. There Cholo, CC, Mikey Aiki, Mr. Lofton and Mr. W. Mr. Potvin, Gary, Bear Teddy, Mr. Gordon. There are several others but their names escape me. We found a new family for me. We were all really a bunch of misfits that did not fit into regular society, so we made ours. We (I was not yet) an elite group of martial arts gaining a new territory an art that was not supposed to be taught in the U.S..
I trained every night I could. I want to walk on the ice at home, so I would go. A day (not to be named) came home real moody. I stayed quiet and continued getting dinner ready and the girls in the bathroom and prepares for bed. I always had to make sure everything was perfect before I left to let me go. He started teasing me about the dojo saying I would never get anywhere, I was worthless and that better not forget who is in charge, he told me that no matter what I have learned, he would always be stronger than me. He started giving me a blow and try to make my counter. Not me, I was not ready and not build up inside of me fighting you really need to be defended.
When you are in an abusive relationship, who are as bored and brainwashing that are not good. Never amount to anything. He grabbed me by the neck. It was one of her favorite things to me now that I think of it. I was drowning. He argued forcefully and I could see his neck muscles bulging and his face was red and her eyes were black. I stood up against the wall. My feet were dangling. He slapped me hard in the face. I felt the sting of the slap and set it on fire. I could feel my face grow hot where I had beaten. I remember the liberation of my neck just let me fall down and grab the top of the head. He was in an uproar. He lifted me off the ground at the top of my head and started banging it against the wall. At this point I was so insensitive to what he was doing, I do not think I felt nothing. All I could thinking was that I was going to lose my class. Finally he stopped his shop. I left and went into the bathroom. I got up and looked at the clock. I had an hour before the class began. I would not mourn. Show my weakness at this man I thought I loved.
I do not think I would go. He entered the room as usual. "You go to your class?" I nodded, afraid to say anything. My mouth was all bloody and swollen. My head ached, so when I tried to put my hair in a ponytail that no 'could rub it good because of the welts on his head. I grabbed my uniform and left.
Time I got there, everyone was in the material and heating. I had lost it falls off, and koto suburi (FY small doll), and stretching (which I loved) I went and I thought that an accident because I can remember all eyes on me when I entered. All in a row and matched, and it was time of working. We will be working on choke holds that night. I was paired with the Lord, Potvin. It was supposed to look like this. (Uke) takes around neck both hands. Tori (me) makes a technique to get (Uke) out. Normally I like these techniques, as they finished that I have to turn to a person in the back and pretend I was going to cut his neck. Mr. Potvin was about to drown so he could do art. I winced away from him because it still hurt very badly. It was painful, red, burned, and had welts on his head and a bruise was starting to form in my eye. Mr. Potvin looked at me. He took his index finger and placed it under the chin. He I lifted my head and turned from side to side.
"Panzer, why does your neck look like this" She looked at me with concern drawn aged in his face.
"I fell into the door," I said, not very convincing. "Panzer said, looking me in the face." Get out of the carpet, 'said to the bank and that is where I went. I was thinking "I do not want you to know that, just when I said I was better."
"Panzer" was sensei, "You have three options. 1. I call the cops, 2. You call the police, 3 I do not want to talk to police ----"( involved)
"What would you say if you talked to him?" I asked.
"I would like say no to paste more "That's what I said. It's that simple. Do not know what he meant. See I thought we were all going to sit and talk. Things were Sensei to normal because I would do it that way. I had the illusion that things would improve.
------ Stuck his head out the door to let me know I was there to pick me up.
"Panzer, go get change" Sensei looked at me like a father looking for his daughter and the desire to protect her. I went to the costumes. Were these two small change next to each other in the back of the dojo. Each of them was a curtain that was in them an image recorded on them. The image when the curtain was closed was a phoenix. Is standing proud and tall. The photo was made by a Japanese artist who wrote with Japanese characters on the side of the bird. I entered the home in the small dressing room and pulled shut the curtain. I remember seeing the silhouette of a phoenix.
I tried to hurry, pulling the strap tied my gi. I was so nervous I was fumbling with it until I remember to drop your shoulders and just my breath. My shoulders were in my ears because I was breathing so superficial and trying to hurry. Zubon untied my belt (pants) and pulled my pants down. I put on my jeans and over my shirt. I took my socks in the hand and left the locker room.
Everyone who coached was still there. They were on duty. I left the front door. Mr. Potvin spent and looked ahead. He touched my shoulder for reassurance. He opened the door to leave.
What I saw, I thought I would never see again.
The night was calm. There were stars in the sky and some clouds, and it would rain. Across the street, the lights were on that radiated through the baseball field. The street was almost empty. This was an autumn night in Belmar and tourism throughout the summer have gone home.
Sensei was an angry man. I've never seen someone so angry I was not going after me. ---- There were pinned against the wall. He spoke in a voice I never heard used. He spoke softly. It was clear what his intentions were, because ---- Was more pale than I've seen. Sensei was a force to consider and now had a new person in his family and now was his job to protect it.
After tonight, sensei became a second father to me. A new sense of duty, not only for me but for my children. That did not happen during night. I will not stand here and say after that night I was free and everything was alright. Not so. went home with the idiot of the night. Do not touch me for a long time. I was the dumb ass who stayed with him. It took a while to get away from him. Finally, when things got so out of hand, M Sensei and his ego is to me and my children. My sensei and M are 85% responsible for getting me out of this mess. They let me make my own decisions on the way, because ultimately I had to decide what was important. I eventually escape.
It took someone to care and help me along the way, but like the phoenix, who spent his life and burned, resurrected from the ashes.
I went into coaching after that. I loved my life with the sensei, and Mr. I moved to a house in Matawan and worked and went to the school. Raw was a single mother. I still get whenever I could. M called me one night.
"I want to find a babysitter Saturday and see me in Oradell New Jersey. "
"There will be a seminar and to come and represent the dojo."
"I can not train because I hurt my back and no one is available. "
"Why do you want?" I'm just a yellow belt and I am most inexperienced person there. "
"Panzer, who are dedicated and have integrity and would be perfect to represent us. I would not be more proud, "Eva said this, and I began to mourn.
"You're going to be OK," hung up. I had agreed to go, but I was thinking,
(What am I getting into?)
I made arrangements for the girls with my dad. M driving his car at the entrance and told me to take just my gi and my arms and carried water and food and packaged for us. This was to be an all day event.
M gave me the run down on what to expect. "We are not in this man
Dislikes Americans. I did not want the art of Daito Ryu in the states. He did not smile, ever. Do not make eye contact with him.
I was wondering what to do? drove for an hour before reaching our final destination. I was so nervous that I had to pee. We arrived and parked. What now? We went in and all I saw was red belts and above. Two hundred people were there. Mate were all trying to find a place. Each school had to be on their own place. I was the only of our dojo, and I was alone and on my own. I turned and looked to Mr. She looked at me like a hawk. She nodded her gaze where he was Shihon Yonazawa. I looked at her and gave her approval. I realized at that moment when suddenly I could feel my feet. They were cold. My toenails were compared plain a couple of ladies who had painted nails. That never has been. Everyone was going around trying to find his place on the floor, just stayed where I was because I did not know what else to do.
It was time now to work techniques. I was paired with this woman. M and I knew another dojo we have trained and earned her the nickname "the black widow." She was a ruthless and selfish attitude was and thought she could do nothing bad. I stayed with her. I just smiled and told me I was there to learn and that she is not going to ruin for me.
The technique worked in was done from a sitting position called seiza. It was a double wrist grab from behind. The person who grabbed his hand so that flexible wrist slightly larger and then made a circular motion with both arms and moved his body in such a way to give momentum and breathing a certain way. I left my shoulders and relaxed. I my movement and the black widow flew back. I had done this technique correctly. Mean while everyone around me was trying to get his opponent outside. Of all the people in the room, red belt, brown belt, black belts and higher grades, Yonazowa came running, I mean to run out of his seat to me and clapping their hands, a smile from ear to ear, shouting: "very good technically, very good technique !!!!!"
At first I thought I should be talking to someone else. I realized I was talking to me. I looked for a moment I came to the earth and bowed own him and thanked him. I turned to M. She saw it all and she was beaming at me.
That night, was presented with a flag. It was a great honor to have one. I was one of five people to get one. M told me I was special dedication and represented my dojo on the right sense.
The flag itself is now 15 years old. It has no meaning to anyone but me. He is old and worn and faded. Color is Japanese blue with white writing. Daito Ryu says YONAZOWA SHIHON 1992
This is a flag that I have today. He hung in my car in the rearview mirror. It's something that reminds me when I forget I am unique and a very dear person. I know what the flag and that is important in my life. It always reminds me that I've been and how far of a road traveled to get where I am today.
My story was that it was difficult to write one. If I I can teach something to anyone, is in the hope that they understand that no one deserves to be treated in a way that makes all human rights away from them. Worth much more than the way some people treat us. A life is as important as many. All it took was someone to care for her. It is possible to rise from the ashes. I'm living proof.
